Am I an athlete too?
I always wanted to be just like you...

To go out there and please a crowd
to walk across a field feeling so proud

To know what it's like to win
to get out there and to my best again

Am I an athlete too?
I always wanted to be just like you...

To improve my skills and be the best
to fly the highest; right over the rest

To be a star and excell at life
to overcome pain, hurt, and strife

Am I an athlete too?
I always wanted to be just like you...

You say I couldn't be an athlete
you say I couldn't take the heat

Oh I think I must be an athlete too
I do all of those things the way that you do

How could I not be an athlete if you are so?
I've told you before, but I want you to know:

I'm a cheerleader and I work as much; it's true
just because I wear a skirt doesn't mean I'm less than you
 
 

Now I lay me down to sleep, a pom and megaphone at my feet.
 

Now I lay me down to rest,
I've tried my hardest and done my best
to tumble, jump, dance & cheer,
with the sharpest of motions and no trace of fear.
I know in the morning my body will ache
but, for what I love it's a price I gladly pay.
Thank you god for making me strong
with determination & commitment
when practices are long.
And Lord if I shall die before I wake,
I'll know I've shown the world,
cheerleaders were born, not made!!!

Hold me up just a little longer Lord and help me keep smiling for one more game.
Give me the strength for one more cheer for I am so very tired.
Give me the courage to face the fans one more time, even the ones who are never around when the team is losing.
Help me say the right words when the contest is over and our team needs to be comforted.
Guide me Lord with your infinite wisdom for you are my spirit.
I ask in the name of your son, Jesus Christ.

Just Because...

Just because I'm a cheerleader

I'm not a ditz.

I'm not stuck up.

I'm not afraid of breaking a nail.

Just because I'm a cheerleader

It doesn't mean you are better than me.

It doesn't mean I only date jocks.

It doesn't mean I'm always happy.

Just because I'm a cheerleader

I'm not hyper.

I'm not over-sensitive.

I'm not the most popular.

Just because I'm a cheerleader

Do you need to make fun of me?

What is your point?

Why can't you be my friend?

Just because I'm a cheerleader--don't stereotype me.

Cheerleading is a way of life, shared by a chosen few,
It is working as a unit in everything you do.

Cheerleading is a rivalry, the competition makes you strong,
It is sharing secrets and tears, learning to get along.

Cheerleading is that ongoing drive to be the very best,
It is patience, perseverance, and very little rest.

Cheerleading is having poise and charm with every word you say,
It is total dedication twenty-four hours a day.

It is always being ready with encouragement and a smile,
Cheerleading is your chance to express your individual style.

Cheerleading is reaching out to comfort a sister who is sad,
It is defending each other in good times and the bad.

Cheerleading is a talent to be able to shine on cue,
It is hiding the pain and anguish that if only half the people knew.

Cheerleaders, after all, are real people that sometimes get down,
but when they're in the spotlight, they must never put on a frown.

Cheerleaders are actresses always ready to go,
That is why it's important for all the world to know.

Not every girl can be a cheerleader, it takes a special kind,
Cheerleaders are full of life and a little bit out of their mind.

A Cheerleader's Prayer

Guide us Oh Lord,
as we practice each day;
To begin with a prayer,
and end the same way.

Help us Oh Lord,
as a team to be one;
To offer to you,
what is lost or is won.

Guide us Oh Lord,
as we strive to succeed,
To keep you in our hearts,
as we cheer and we lead.

Help us Oh Lord,
be a light for each other,
To respect, to accept,
and build up one another.

Send your angels Oh Lord,
for our flyers things,
Be their guides in the air,
Set them down on their wings.

Send your power, Oh Lord,
to our bases for strength,
As they lift and they turn,
their teammates at length.

Help them, Oh Lord,
our spots and our back;
To take serious their part
to guide and keep track.

For our team as a whole,
may we learn how to be
True children of peace
for our community.

Be as one blessed by thee,
Keep them safe on their way,
Lead them close to thee.
 
 

To Every Cheerleader

There are little eyes upon you and they're
watching night and day;

There are little ears that quickly take in every
word you say;

There are little hands all eager to do anything to do

And the little girl who's dreaming of the day she'll
be like you.

You're the little girl's idol;

You're the wisest of the wise,

In her little mind about you no suspicions ever rise;

She believed in you devoutly,

Holds that all you say and do she will say and do, in
your way when she's grown-up like you.

There's a wide eyed little girl who believes you're
always right,

And her ears are always open, and she watches
day and night!

You are setting an example every day in all you do.

For the little girl who's waiting, to grow up,
and be like you.
 
 

A CHEER POEM

It's the glimmer of hope when times are tough;
It's a bit more patience when we've had enough.

It's that thoughtful smile when one's desperately needed,
It's that extra push, a reason why we've succeeded.

This part of our personality which never fails to strive,
Is the creator of our goals and the source of our drive.

We are enthused about life, optimistic about what's to be,
Because the cheerleader inside looks for the best of life you see.

It's the strong support upon which you stand,
It emerges as a friend to lend you a hand.

Where does this light come from, where does the ray start?
It shines in your mind, but ignites in your heart.

The confidence to try, the will to believe,
The acceptance of failure and the way to achieve.

It's very close by, its something we trust.
It's the fighter inside, it's the cheerleader within us.
